SULTAN OF SOKOTO TRASHES OPERATION SHEGE KA FASA

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has on Thursday, expressed his displeasure at the unveiling of the indigenous security outfit ‘Operation Shege Ka Fasa’ in Kaduna. He made this known at a Northern security meeting in Kaduna on Thursday, where he blamed the northern elites for giving the youths leeway.

The Coalition of Northern Groups had on Wednesday unveiled the symbol of the security outfit in Kaduna. In the Sultan’s words, ‘I saw it on the television, and the media gave them attention. Now the elders allowed these youths to go forward. So, the elites are our problems, the elders are our problems. If the elders don’t take the lead, the youth will do whatever they think is right. You have to caution these youths by giving them good leadership. Now, they have launched their own security outfit that they called Shege Ka Fasa; meaning what?

I want to call on Northern elders to caution them. Don’t allow these youths to take over leadership from you. You have to reach out to everyone no matter how low they are. We need to take the bull by the horns and not allow the youths take over our responsibility.’

The Sultan, who is the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims, urged the northern governors to tackle the security challenges in the region, to prevent a rise in insurgency and banditry.

ATIKU ABUBAKAR HAS CAUTIONED PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI TO STOP RATIONALISING KILLINGS IN THE NORTH

Atiku Abubakar, former Vice-President of Nigeria and one time Presidential aspirant, on Wednesday released a statement urging the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), not to rationalize killings.

This was spurred by some opinions aired by Buhari, in an article published in Speaking Out, a guest opinion column for Christianity Today, on Tuesday that 90 per cent of all victims of Boko Haram atrocities were Muslims. He also added that the perception that attacks by Boko Haram insurgents always target Christians in Nigeria was untrue.

Atiku, on his verified personal twitter handle, @atiku cautioned the President against rationalizing killings. He said killings by any misguided group is wrong and should be condemned.

He tweeted, “We must not rationalise killings. Whether Christian, Muslim, traditionalist, or Atheist, the killing of any human being, by Boko Haram, or any other misguided group, is wrong and should be condemned unequivocally. There is no compulsion in religion. Only love -AA.”

COALITION OF NORTHERN GROUPS UNVEILS INDIGENUS SECURITY OUTFIT 'OPERATION SHEGE KA FASA' IN KADUNA

The Coalition of Northern Groups unveiled the symbols of Operation Shege Ka Fasa, the zone-specific security outfit that will be responsible for tackling kidnapping and banditry.

The outfit, which is similar to the indigenous security outfit of the Southwest, Amotekun, would be formally inaugurated in the coming weeks when all necessary legal processes might have been formally adopted and ratified by the Northern states’ Governors. However, unlike the Southwest security outfit, Operation Amotekun, which was greeted with fanfare when it was launched in Ibadan, Oyo State on January 9, 2020; the unveiling of Shege Ka Fasa had no dignitaries from the region present.

Shege Ka Fasa, which literally translates to “I dare you” in Hausa is designed to be the vanguard of the entire North encompassing every ethnic group and religion and to be deeply patriotic in its operation. It is symbolized by a roaring lion, displaying strength.

Speaking at the Arewa House in Kaduna, the spokesman for the CNGs,  AbdulAzeez Sulieman said, “If the state governments and other leaders of the region fail to take action to protect the region the way their southern counterparts are doing, CNG is willing to follow through with all the processes of obtaining the required legal backing for the outfit from the relevant federal authorities. We resolved to formalise this request by writing to the governors through the Northern Governors Forum and to the leaderships of traditional, religious and cultural institutions in the region.”

Seun Kuti has spoken up against the ban on commercial motorcycles in Lagos.

Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has joined millions of Nigerians to condemn the move of the Lagos State government to ban commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada across the state.

The award-winning musician aired his opinions on his Instagram page on February 4, 2020. He made no attempt to conceal his displeasure at the reactions of Nigerians to the ban.

"Nigerian professionals have shown their true colors again as large

oppressors in waiting. Children dying in the hospital every day they don’t care. Miseducated and undereducated children they don’t care. Police brutality, no outrage but tell them to walk from bus stop to the office oh no the worst has happened!!!

If u wish for your children or loved ones to be Okada and Keke riders please raise up your hand! We know these ain’t jobs. We pacify those we have failed with slave labor and slave wages and we are ready to fight for them to continue slaving away!! #getthesax," he wrote.

It is no surprise that the Afrobeat musician who is taking after his father, Fela's steps both in music and activism have spoken on this issue. Known for his music with the Egypt 80 band, and activism, especially in matters affecting the nation, it was expected that he would contribute to the Lagos Okada ban issue which has sparked a lot of outrage in the state.

According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, he said that oil bunkerers intentionally started the fire

They stormed the area to siphon petrol but were engaged by security agencies who attempted to apprehend them. They then started the fire to prevent the security agencies from arresting them.

He explained: “On arrival of the LRT at the scene of the incident, it was gathered that some vandals were engaged in illegal bunkering activities at Fire Junction, Ijegun, within the vicinity where NNPC pipelines were buried.

“The vandals had already siphoned petrol into a 33,000 liters tanker while a second tanker of the same capacity was being loaded when security agencies suddenly intercepted them.

“While trying to escape, some of the siphoned fuel spilled into the drainage and the vandals were alleged to have set the spilled fuel on fire in a bid to deter the security agencies from apprehending them"

In an interview with Ytv. She explained :

"There was no GSM then. I didn't know and he came to my house. My house then, the gate was opened but the living room is where you just knock the door and someone will come downstairs and open the door. However, my mum had travelled with my younger sister. It was just I and my elder sister at home.

"The house was a duplex so big that if you are in a room upstairs you won't know what's going on downstairs. So I came down normally, it was 6:30 am to 7 am pretty early, and I heard a knock. Ah, who's that, Pastor Biodun. I couldn't say anything because what he doing here this early?.

"Immediately I opened the door, he just pushed me. He didn't say anything, didn't utter any word, he just pushed me to one of the chairs in my living room and I saw him, he was removing his belt.

So I was like what? And he said, 'keep quiet, do what I want and you will be fine'. At this point, a whole lot was going on in my head because he was someone I had put up here and I thought was really really concerned about me. I had already filled him in the place of a father that could speak to me, guide me and he was there about to do something I did not believe.

"When I was about to react, he covered my mouth and when he did he said, Busola, listen to me and you will be fine, just do what I want you to do.

"I didn't struggle, I just left him and he brought out his penis. I was wearing a nightgown and pant, he pulled down my pant found difficulty to enter I was grunting, I would cry and he eventually penetrated, blood dropped on the floor.

"He tapped me and said, you should be happy I'm the one that did this to you and he said I'll see you and he left.

"He said, 'be happy a man of God did this to you, disvirgined you'. At this point he was already a pastor in Ilorin, his wife had given birth to their first child Shindara and I was in the choir."
