Senate sets up committee to probe Elisha Abbo for slapping a woman

Nigerian News has it that senator Elisha Abbo is set to begin questioning for slapping a saleswoman in Abuja

Senator Elisha Abbo is a Peoples Democratic Party member representing Adamawa North Senatorial District. He slapped a saleswoman at an adult toy shop in Abuja

The incident reportedly happened on May 11, 2019 exactly one month before the 41-year-old lawmaker was sworn into the 9th Senate.

In a viral video being shared on social media, the lawmaker was caught assaulting a woman during an altercation inside a sex toy shop in Abuja. He claimed she insulted him first, which led to him reiterating and physically assaulting her.

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, constituted the panel, following a point of order made by Uba Sanni, Kaduna Central representative.

He said: "Some of us have spent most of our lives defending and fighting for the rights of less privileged and most especially, the youth and women.

“I, therefore, call on this Senate to take a decisive action to redeem the image of this Senate"

Ahmed Lawan later confirmed to give a fair hearing to all sides and submit its report in two weeks.
