NNPC Commences Oil Exploration in Benue

Nigerian news has it that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) will commence oil exploration in Benue state next month.

However, NNPC staff have all been assured of their safety as they begin the exploration of hydrocarbon in Benue State.

Governor Samuel Ortom gave the speech during a Government House, Makurdi when the NNPC exploration team led by Dorathy Umoetok, Executive Director, Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL) visited him.

The Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu, spoke on behalf of the governor, and promised his administration would put in place the needed security measures to guarantee the safety and unrestrained work of the team on exploration in the state and the larger Benue.

Governor Samuel Ortom, also charged traditional rulers and council chairmen from the areas affected to help provide an atmosphere of peace in order for the workers to achieve a great result. In return, the Councils promise to work hand in hand with the government, emphasizing that they would deal squarely with anyone or group of people in any community that constitute obstacle to the work.
