“Nobody should force it on anybody, it should be optional. If you want to take it, take it. If you don’t want to take it, don’t take it. Nobody should force the vaccine on anybody."

“Now I’m hearing that they said if you don’t have it you can’t travel, that’s nonsense. Whoever doesn’t want to take it, should not take it."

“There are some jobs now, especially in the medical line, they said everybody must take it, some hospitals and some nurses but don’t take it."

“Me, I won’t take it, my wife won’t take it, my children will not take it. If they say my child must take it before he goes to school, I’ll withdraw the child from going to school."

“I’ll not advise you take it but if you want to, go ahead but if you want my advice which I’m entitled to as your Pastor, I’ll say don’t take it."

“Listen to me, whatever I tell you take it to the bank, you will soon know. That’s how I gave prophecy here about Donald Trump not winning and people think I’m anti-Trump. I’m talking about something spiritual and they were being emotional."

“America, the kind of suffering they will suffer after one or two years, you will see it and it’s not the man, it’s the woman, that’s the president."

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed the resumption of Voter Registration on June 28 across the 774 Local Government Areas ahead of the 2023 general elections.

INEC’s chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Thursday during a briefing in Abuja.

He also declared the indefinite suspension of the bye-election held in Ekiti East following killings, stating “if the purpose of election is to kill, the election will remain suspended indefinitely. And when I mean indefinitely, I mean indefinitely.”

According to him, the registration exercise would be carried out continuously for over a year until the third quarter of 2022.

He said: “The CVR could not recommence in 2020 due largely to the COVID-19 pandemic. In line with the general advise by health officials regarding events involving large groups of people, we considered it inauspicious to restart the CVR at the height of the pandemic. In the light of the pandemic, the commission promised the nation that it would recommend the CVR in the first quarter of 2021.

“The first quarter of 2021 ended yesterday (Wednesday) and obviously the commission was unable to restart the CVR exercise. In consideration of these challenges and the measures we have taken to overcome them, the commission is now in a position to announce Monday June 28 2022 as the date for the recommencement of the CVR exercise nationwide.”

As pictures of a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode receiving COVID-19 vaccine surfaced online, people have taken to social media to express their thoughts.

Fani-Kayode, alongside some other COVID-19 conspiracy theorists, including Dino Melaye, Yahaya Bello, Chris Oyakhilome have told Nigerians not to take the vaccine.

Fani-Kayode had, in an article published on April 1, 2020 titled ‘COVID-19 and mark of the beast,’ alleged the virus was a demonic spirit cultivated and manufactured through the introduction and usage of 5G, saying it was “invoked from the pit of hell.”

He had also on March 29 tweeted coronavirus outbreak was an agenda against former United States President, Donald Trump.

Taking to his Twitter page, FFK shared pictures and videos as he received his COVID-19 vaccine.

He also thanked Senator Grace Bent for convincing him to get vaccinated.

He tweeted: “Despite my initially strong reservations I bowed to sound logic and superior reasoning and took my Covid 19 vaccine today.

“This is thanks to my sister the distinguished Senator Grace Bent who convinced me to take it and who emphasised that we must set an example to others.

“I also give thanks to my sister the Hon. Patricia Etteh, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, who is the Chairman of the National Hospital and who not only let me eat all HER lunch in her office before the exercise took place but who also gave us a warm reception and guided us through the whole exercise."

“Her whole team and staff at the hospital were simply wonderful and very efficient and supportive and consequently the whole exercise was very pleasant."

“Finally let me add this: if my hero President Donald J. Trump can take the vaccine even after criticizing and questioning it then so can I."

Many Nigerians reacted to his post on social media.

While many berated him for misleading the people with so many controversial claims, some others carpeted him for his hypocrisy.

Ola Olaoosega said, “I knew all along you will take the vaccine or have you thrown away your international passport and visa?”

An international expert mission to Wuhan has concluded it was very likely that Covid-19 first passed to humans from a bat through an intermediary animal, while all but ruling out a laboratory leak.

The intermediate host hypothesis was deemed “likely to very likely”, while the theory that the virus escaped from a lab was seen as “extremely unlikely”, according to the long-awaited report, which AFP obtained a copy of on Monday, before the official release.

The report from the international mission to Wuhan has been keenly anticipated ever since the expert team left China more than a month ago.

Delays in the publication of the findings, drafted in collaboration with the team’s Chinese counterparts, had been blamed on coordination and translation issues, even as a diplomatic tug-of-war raged in the background over the report’s contents.

During a lengthy press conference in Wuhan on February 9 at the end of the mission, the experts and their Chinese counterparts made clear that they could not yet draw any firm conclusions.

But they said they had worked to rank a number of hypotheses according to how likely they were.

There is a missing link in the transmission chain

Experts believe that the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the Covid-19 disease originally came from bats.

One theory examined was that the virus jumped directly from bats to humans. The final report determined that this scenario was “possible to likely”.

A more likely scenario, the report found, was that the virus had first jumped from bats to another animal, which in turn infected humans.

“Although the closest related viruses have been found in bats, the evolutionary distance between these bat viruses and SARS-CoV-2 is estimated to be several decades, suggesting a missing link,” the report said.

“The scenario including introduction through an intermediary host was considered to be likely to very likely,” it said, although it did not conclude which animal may have first allowed the virus to jump to humans.

The report meanwhile did not rule out transmission through frozen food — Beijing’s favored theory — since the virus appears to be able survive at freezing temperatures, saying that “introduction via cold/ food chain products is considered possible”.

Finally, the report examined the idea of a lab leak from, for instance, the Wuhan Institute of Virology — a theory promoted by former US president Donald Trump’s administration.

It pointed to the fact that there was no record of any virus resembling SARS-CoV-2 in any laboratory before December 2019, and stressed high safety levels at the labs in Wuhan.

“A laboratory origin of the pandemic was considered to be extremely unlikely,” it said.

Inside the business class section of Air Peace at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport on Sunday in Owerri, the former chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, attacked ex-Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha resulting in a mild drama.

According to eyewitness report, Ilomuanya was seated in his seat when Okorocha entered the plan. And suddenly the monarch charged towards the senator attacking him with his walking stick.

The whole scene started out to be a joke but it quickly escalated as the monarch allegedly descended on Okorocha with his walking stick while shouting at him to stay away from him and Orlu people.

The captain of the plane and other attendants on board had to get involved for the drama to come to an end.

Okorocha, who was said to have maintained calmness, was said to have been immediately relocated to another seat, even as Ilomuanya was heard warning him to stay away from Orlu Senatorial District if he truly wanted peace to reign.

Ilomuanya is one of the two monarchs dethroned by Okorocha on June 6, 2014. He was earlier removed as the chairman of the state Council of Traditional Rulers.

He was, however, reinstated as the traditional ruler by former Governor Emeka Ihedioha, who said the reinstatement was based on a legal advice.

The monarch could not be reached for more explanations on what triggered his actions.

Reacting to the incident, Okorocha, through his media adviser, Sam Onwuemeodo, described Ilomuanya’s assault on him as “disgraceful, unfortunate, condemnable, embarrassing, ungodly, indecent and unexpected from someone who had led the state Council of Traditional Rulers.

Onwuemeodo, who issued a statement following the trending of the incident on the social media, said the monarch’s action was propelled by his desire to return as the chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers.

According to the statement, people like Ilomuanya “have told themselves that the easiest way or method to adopt to achieve their aims or ambitions will be to insult or attack Okorocha, leveraging on the hostility of the government in the state now, against Okorocha and his family.

“If Senator Okorocha saw his brother, llomuanya and chose to sit close to him, that action should be highly commended and applauded. It showed that Okorocha had behaved not only as a Christian, but also as a statesman. It showed that he had nothing personal against llomuanya."

“Again, if llomuanya could confront Okorocha to the extent of hitting him with his walking stick and Okorocha did not retaliate but hastily relocated to another seat, we will only say that Okorocha has acquitted himself very well as a two term former of Imo State governor and now a sitting senator and a worthy ambassador of the state and the nation. He has shown character worthy of emulation.”
