During Sunday's live show the BBNaija 2021 housemates failed to reveal the identities of the wildcards.

BBNaija 'shine ya eyes' housemates were tasked by big brother to reveal the identities of two wildcards inside the big brother house last week. But they failed at the task.

Big brother introduced the wildcards as a plot twist to this year's edition of the popular reality TV show. The wildcards were asked to conceal their identities from their fellow housemates or risk going home if they were ratted out.

Biggie called each housemate into the diary room to ask them who they think are the wildcards. Majority of the housemates picked Liquorose and Jay-Paul as the wildcards.

They were soon disappointed when biggie revealed Maria and Pere as the wildcards.

This announcement was met with surprises on the face of the housemates but they still had it in them to hug the recently revealed wildcards.

After the announcement, Biggie stated that the two housemates; Maria and Pere, were officially in the race for the grand prize like the other housemates.

BBNaija Live Show: Housemates failed to reveal wildcards

Muiz Banire, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has described the indictment of a Deputy Commissioner for Police, Abba Kyari, in the case of international fraud, as a stain on the country's image.

Mr Muiz made the comments while reacting to the suspension of Mr Kyari by the Police Service Commission on Sunday during a talk show on television.

According to a statement by the commission’s Head of Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the decision was conveyed in a letter signed by Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, a retired justice of the Supreme Court.

Kyari’s suspension took effect from July 31 and would subsist pending the outcome of the investigation in respect to his indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States.

The commission has also directed the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to furnish it with information on further developments on the matter for necessary further action.

The DCP’s suspension followed the issuing of an arrest warrant by a U.S magistrate judge, Otis Wright in the case involving popular socialite, Ramon Igbalode, a.k.a Hushpuppi.

According to documents unsealed last week in the US, Mr Kyari had arrested and jailed one Chibuzo Vincent, at the behest of Hushpuppi.

He also allegedly sent Hushpuppi bank account details into which he (Hushpuppi) could deposit payment for Vincent’s arrest and imprisonment.

Mr Kyari, in a Facebook post on Thursday, however, denied the allegations.

Last Wednesday, the US Department of Justice had announced that Hushpuppi had been involved “in an elaborate scheme to steal more than $1.1 million from a business person attempting to finance the construction of a school for children in Qatar.”

Six persons were indicted in the investigation.

In laundering the proceeds of the Qatar operation, a dispute broke out among members of the conspiracy, courts documents said.

The dispute allegedly prompted Vincent – one of the members, to contact the victim and inform them of the scam operation.

After this contact, Hushpuppi allegedly arranged to have Vincent jailed in Nigeria by Kyari.

Kyari was also alleged to have provided third-party bank accounts to receive payment for the illegal arrest.

In his defence on Thursday, Kyari said Vincent had been arrested only because Hushpuppi claimed that he (Vincent) had seriously threatened to attack his family in Nigeria.

He said Vincent was eventually released on bail after no actual threats were discovered.

“Nobody demanded a kobo from Abbas Hushpuppi.

“Our focus was to save people’s lives that were purported to have been threatened,” Kyari said.”

More than 4 billion doses of anti-Covid vaccines have been administered around the world, eight months after the vaccination drive started, according to an AFP count Thursday.

Global injections have slowed slightly: this fourth billion was reached in 30 days, while it took only 26 days to reach the previous one. The first and second billion were reached after about 140 and 40 days respectively.

Forty of the four billion shots have been administered in China (1.6 billion). India (451 million) and the United States (343 million) make up the trio of countries that have administered the most jabs.

In terms of population among countries with more than one million people, the United Arab Emirates is the leader: 168 first and second doses administered per 100 inhabitants. Uruguay follows (137), then Bahrain (134).

The UAE is close to having 70 percent of its population fully vaccinated while Uruguay and Bahrain have both reached more than 60 percent.

After this the leading countries are Qatar, Chile and Canada (129 shots per 100 inhabitants), Israel (128), Singapore (125), the United Kingdom, Mongolia and Denmark (124) and Belgium (121).

These countries have all fully vaccinated more than half their populations.

Not far off this are China (111), the United States (104) and the European Union (103). The US and EU have fully vaccinated nearly half their population while China does not communicate this information.

Most poor countries have now started to vaccinate, mainly thanks to the Covax scheme and donations of unused doses by rich countries, but the vaccination coverage remains very unequal: high-income countries (as defined by the World Bank) administered an average of 97 doses per 100 inhabitants compared with just 1.6 doses in low-income countries.

On average 52 shots have been injected per 100 inhabitants worldwide.

Four countries are not yet vaccinating: Burundi, Eritrea, Haiti and North Korea.

The British government has a hand in the alleged ‘abduction’ of leader of The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu in Nairobi, Kenya his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor has alleged.

Mr Ejiofor made the accusation on Wednesday while speaking on Arise TV Morning Show.

He also accused the British Government and the British High Commission of not doing much to help Kanu despite being a British citizen.

Ejiofor wondered why the Commission has not visited Kanu since he was brought to Nigeria.

He noted that unlike Kanu’s 2015 arrest when the Commission was regularly visiting him while in detention, the British Commission is paying lip service to helping him this time around.

He said: “I can confirm to you that British high commission is not doing much about this case. I can confirm to you that there is every likely hood of connivance in what happened to my client.

“Because some times in 2015 when my client was arrested I know how they were keeping in constant communication with him and visiting him regularly both when he was in DSS custody and when he was transfered to prison.

“But as at yesterday a British national was arrested and till date they have not visited him even when we have officially notified them of the situation.

“As at the time he was arrested, he was arrested as a British national because he had renounced his Nigerian citizenship over 5 years ago. And they are still talking about offering him consular services”, he said

Ejiofor cautioned the media to stop describing the ordeal of his client in Kenya as an arrest arguing that it was a clear case of abduction, illegal imprisonment, torture and extraordinary rendition.

He said the manner he was taken and the manner Yoruba Activist, Sunday Igboho was arrested were completely different.

“At the time he was arrested, his associates in Nairobi started looking for him. They searched in all the Police stations and other law enforcement agencies and he was nowhere to be found."

“In the case of Sunday Igboho, he was arresteded in Benin Republic and taken to custody and is being subjected to trial. His arrest was announced but in the case of my client he was detained in an illegal facility for 8 days after which he was renditioned back to Nigeria,”he said.

Reports states that Baba Ijesha was arrested in April for alleged sexual assault involving a minor.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo had on Monday admitted as evidence the Closed-circuit Television (CCTV) footage which captured the embattled Nollywood actor.

Explaining how the CCTV was set up in the house, she said: “The CCTV man, Mr. Brown set up the CCTV in the house. He owns a surveillance company. I don’t know the name, I only know Mr. Brown. I didn’t know the make of the CCTV camera used.

“Immediately I moved to the house, my landlord advised me to put a CCTV in the house, after asking for the price, I felt it was too high,” she told the court.

“When I spoke with my friend and mom, they told me to set up CCTV, I pleaded with the CCTV guys to help install it that it was urgent.”

Ugandan weightlifter Julius Ssekitoleko has returned home on Friday, days after he went missing from a pre-Olympics camp in western Japan.

Local media reports that Ssekitoleko is being held at the Ugandan police headquarters to determine if he committed an offence or not.

His pregnant wife, mother and government officials who had travelled to the Entebbe airport could not greet him upon arrival.

Uganda’s ministry of foreign affairs in a statement noted that the athlete was being  “rehabilitated,” assuring that the government would help him understand how such acts of misconduct cannot only affect him as an athlete but also other athletes in the sports sector and the nation at large.”

The 20-year-old went missing from the camp a week ago but was later tracked down in Mie Prefecture on Tuesday in a joint operation between Japanese authorities and the Ugandan Embassy in Japan.

He did not meet the Olympic standards in the latest International rankings and thus fled the Team Uganda camp during pre-Olympics training.

Ssekitoleko had left a note in which he said he wanted to stay and work in the Asian nation.

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to boycott the local government elections holding in Ogun State tomorrow.

This followed a court verdict yesterday, which ratified the decision of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) to conduct the council poll.

An Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta, ruling yesterday in a suit instituted by a PDP chieftain, Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele, against OGSIEC, held that the commission should continue with the election.

But, reacting to the verdict, Ogundele said although the court affirmed his leadership of the party in the state, it declined to stop the election on technical grounds.

Consequently, he directed PDP members to boycott the election.

A statement by Ogundele said PDP would withdraw its participation in the poll.

The statement said: “That all candidates of the party, who have been earlier screened by the party to contest in the local government election and our teeming party members and loyal supporters are enjoined to remain calm and sustain their confidence in the leadership of the party.”

But another chieftain of the party, Prince Leke Shittu, said PDP is going on with the election, adding that a dissatisfied faction cannot speak for the party.

He said OGSIEC had done the needful by recognising the legitimate group and urged those unhappy to sheathe their swords and vote for the party.

OGSIEC Chairman Babatunde Osibodu, who confirmed the dismissal of the case, said PDP is properly represented and will participate in the election tomorrow.
