Mele Kyari is the new NNPC GMD

Nigerian news has it that Dr. Maikanti Baru, Group Managing Director (GMD), NNPC has been replaced by Mele Kyari on Thursday, July 8.

Mr. Kyari until his appointment was the Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division (COMD) of the corporation, and also doubled as Nigeria’s National Representative to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC since 13th May 2018.

Mr. Kyari is from Borno State, born on January 8, 1965. He is a Geologist holding a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Geology and Earth Science from the University of Maiduguri in 1987.

As the 19th NNPC, GMD, Mr. Kyari has 27 years in the Crude oil/Petroleum industry. From 1998-2018, he has worked at the National Petroleum Investments Management Services and the Crude Oil Marketing Department (COMD), serving on different positions and locations.
