Halima Aden makes history as the first to pose in hijab for 'sports illustrated' swimsuit.

Nigerian news has it that Halima Aden, a Somali American model has made history as the first model to pose in a hijab for 'sports illustrated' swimsuit issue.

"Growing up in the States, I never really felt represented because I never could flip through a magazine and see a girl who was wearing a hijab," Aden says in a video for Sports Illustrated. "Don't be afraid to be the first." She completed.

Halima Aden was born in a kenyan refugee camp by somali parents. She moved to the United States at 6. Now back in kenya for the epic shoot.

Although, this is not her first time competing for modest Fashion swimsuit, she competed for the Miss Minnesota USA pageant in 2016, where she came in as a semi-finalist.

This shoot has earned her lots of congratulations from people all over, including celebrities like Ilhan Omar, who tweeted:

"As my fellow Minnesotan and Somali refugee, I am so proud of you for working to get here and to propel the conversation forward."
