Angry youths storm Oyo police headquarters over serial killer’s escape

Some angry youths have stormed the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters at the Eleyele area of Ibadan to stage a protest at the over the escape of Sunday Shodipe, the prime suspect in the serial killings that have been happening in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the youths stormed the police headquarters and some of the protesters reportedly became unruly and attacked the headquarters with stones and other missiles. However, the police were said to have promptly stopped it before the Commissioner of Police, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, attended to them.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Olugbenga Fadeyi said some students also joined in the protests.

He said, “The CP and other senior police officers attended to them and answered all their questions. You know students now, some of them got out of control but we were able to handle the situation professionally. They have gone back.”

Shodipe, who was paraded on July 17 by the police, confessed to have killed some of the victims in the area before he later escaped from the police custody on August 11. The policemen on duty when he escaped have reportedly faced an orderly room trial and are expected to face further sanctions.
